The class takes a field trip, meaning they are still attending school operational times, which would set the film pre-Summer at a minimum, and the date of Friday, May 13th would be consistent with that as it is the only Friday the 13th of the year.
Tommy Jarvis's age has clearly elapsed a few years since the events of Friday the 13th Part 4. The deputy sarcastically says "happy Friday the 13th", meaning the date is a Friday the 13th and the month (May) is nearing Summer as the campers arrive to Camp Forest Green. This would be the only Friday the 13th in early Summer within several years, narrowing it down to be the logical date.
